The Extension of Sensations

“The basic unit for contemporary art is not the idea, but the analysis of and extension of sensations.” Susan Sontag. Artist Cyn Silva's paintings embody the extension of sensations with bold sweeps across the canvas, using an electrifying color and composition palette. Born in Fremont, California, her family encouraged her to explore the resources around her to find her expression. From age five, Cyn’s older sister was toting her around to the area’s art museums. By the time Cyn was ten, she was involved in oil painting classes, and by twelve, she was enrolled in private art theory classes every Saturday for seven years with artist D. D’Ovalle in the Bay Area. Cyn states, “She taught me everything about art theory through 20 different mediums and the color wheel.”

The art theory training paid off for Cyn. During high school and college, she sold her original art to interior designers and exhibited it in fine art galleries. Cyn attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco to study architecture, home and interior design, and graphic design, which gave her the drive and inspiration to push her art into the professional realm. Eventually, her Silicon Valley tech companies clients purchased original large-scale canvases for their office space. Cyn’s work came to the attention of local Interior designers who commissioned paintings for their luxury estates and corporate showrooms. The commissions brought Cyn into contact with many real estate agents, which she saw as a further opportunity to grow her understanding of the business.

"I have held an active real estate license since I was twenty. I love the people I meet in the business, and it allows me to help investors make sound decisions on expanding their portfolios in Arizona and California." Cyn says, "I will always be a full-time artist, and my experience and background allow me to create a painting for clients to tell their stories." Cyn works with both her real estate contacts and creates her paintings from her Art Studio in Optima Camelview Business offices in Phoenix, Arizona. The space keeps her in contact with architects, interior designers, and builders in the area and the latest trends in the industry.

Cyn’s “process” evolves every day. “I love bold colors, palette knives, and working in Oils." She is inspired by the subjects literally in front of her: the golf course, the shadows of the high rises of the city, the local car show, local festivals, sloping hillsides, interesting people, and constantly looking for new and unusual angles no one has thought to capture before in her paintings. Her oversized canvases and unique perspectives occupy space in the homes and businesses of professional athletes, celebrities, and media personalities. Artist Cyn Silva is a member of Scottsdale Arts, Artlink, Phoenix Arts, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the National Concierge Association (NCA), and the National Association of Realtors (NAR). Cyn exhibits in the Herberger Theatre Art Gallery, Static Gallery, the Found RE Art Gallery, Channel 12 Art POP's Gallery, Turks and Caicos Agency Offices, and monthly exhibits in locations in Scottsdale, Arizona.
